According to a breaking news banner on CNN.com the Georgia Supreme Court has ordered the release of Genarlow Wilson.
Wilson had been convicted of aggravated child molestation, a felony requiring sexual offender registration, after receiving oral sex from a 15 year old female when he was 17. The act was caught on videotape during a party. Wilson had initially received a ten year sentence. Had the two teens engaged in sexual intercourse without oral sex the crime would have been a misdemeanor with a maximum of 12 months in prison and no sex-offender status.
Wilson's conviction had been reduced to a misdemeanor and his sentence was reduced. However, the decision had been on appeal thus preventing Wilson from being released from prison.
Today's news is great news.
