Costa Ricans Protest American Dominance

Over 100,000 Costa Ricans took to the streets to protest the Central American Free Trade Agreement with the United States decrying the food of cheap goods and job loss they feel will be the agreement's result. Costa Rica is the only nation yet to ratify the agreement and will only do so after a nation wide referendum. Imagine that, letting the people decide!

I don't claim to be an expert in trade but I do know that past trade agreements between the United States and foreign nations have resulted in a variety of unfortunate results, ranging from job loss to environmental degradation. Costa Rica has a substantial tourism industry which could may be what allows the nation to even considering rebuking American economic hegemony.
